Joni’s Dog Spa and Custom Closet Remodel
When Joni reached out to Rural Renovation, she needed two things: a beautiful, functional dog spa for her five large basset hounds, and a custom closet that could finally organize her home. What started as a simple remodel turned into one of our most joyful, personality-filled projects to date.
Matt and Amber teamed up to bring Joni’s vision to life — transforming an outdated enclosed porch into a warm, practical dog-washing station and reimagining the closet layout for maximum storage and accessibility. The project became a perfect blend of craftsmanship, creativity, and care for both client and pets.
The Challenge
The original porch and closet setup wasn’t meeting Joni’s needs. The washer and dryer took up valuable space, and there was nowhere designed for her dogs’ grooming routine. She needed:
A dedicated area for dog washing and grooming
Durable materials that could withstand frequent use
A functional closet with organized storage
A design that felt cohesive with her home’s charm
The Solution
Matt and Amber collaborated to craft a solution that was both smart and stylish.
Matt’s craftsmanship shone through in the structural transformation — relocating the washer and dryer, building a custom dog washing station, and designing bespoke stairs for easy access to the grooming table (a thoughtful surprise addition for Joni).
Amber’s design guidance brought warmth and charm through her selection of wallpaper, paint colors, lighting, and trim details, even repurposing old pillars and millwork from Joni’s own collection to preserve the home’s character.
The result is a space that feels uniquely personal — built to simplify daily routines while celebrating Joni’s love for her dogs.
The Results
The completed dog spa and closet exceeded expectations. The formerly underused porch now functions as a durable, easy-to-clean grooming suite with thoughtful touches that make every detail feel intentional. The adjoining closet provides efficient, beautiful storage space — blending seamlessly with the rest of the home.
